Procedure: Freshmen are admitted to all sessions. There are early deŽcision and deferred admissions plans. Application deadlines are open, along with a $50 fee. Notification is sent on a rolling basis. 65 early deŽcision candidates were accepted for the 1997-98 class.
Transfer: 933 transfer students enrolled in 1997-98. Applicants must have a GPA of 2.0 in a minimum of 24 credit hours. The SAT 1 or ACT and an interview are recommended. 30 credits of 124 must be completŽed at HPU.
Visiting: There are regularly scheduled orientations for prospective students. There are guides for informal visits and visitors may sit in on classes and stay overnight. To schedule a visit, contact Scott Stensrud, Admissions Office.
Financial Aid: In 1997-98, 40% of all freshmen and 32% of continuŽing students received some form of financial aid. 31% of freshmen and 35% of continuing students received need-based aid. The average freshŽman award was $10,400. Of that total, scholarships or need-based grants averaged $4630 ($12,200 maximum}; loans averaged $7100 ($12,125 maximum); and work contracts averaged $2900 ($3000 maximum). 65% of undergraduates work part time. Average annual earnings from campus work are $2500. The average financial indebtedŽness of the 1997 graduate was $18,500. HPU is a member of CSS. The FAFSA and the college’s own financial statement are required. The fall application deadline is March 1.
International Students: There are 1906 international students enŽrolled. The school actively recruits these students. They must score 550 on the TOEFL and also take the college’s own test.
Computers: There are 300 IBM-compatible PCs located in the comŽputer center and tutoring labs equipped with the UNIX system and CD-ROM. All students may access the system 7 days a week during day and evening hours. There are no time limits. The fee is $35 for students not enrolled in a computer class.
Graduates: In 1997, 919 bachelor’s degrees were awarded. The most popular majors were business (44%), computer and information systems (13%), and travel industry management {11%). In an average class, 56% graduate in 4 years, 60% in 5 years, and 70% in 6 years. 200 compaŽnies recruited on campus in 1996-97. Of the 1996 graduating class, 35% were enrolled in graduate school within 6 months of graduation and 32% were employed.
