Bachelor’s degrees are awarded in AGRICULTURE (agricultural economics, agronomy, and animal science), BIOLOGICAL SCIENCE (biology/biological science), BUSINESS (accounting and business administration and management), COMMUNICATIONS AND THE ARTS (art, English, modern language, music, and speech/debate/rhetoric), COMPUTER AND PHYSICAL SCIENCE (chemistry, computer science, mathematics, and physics), EDUCATION (elementary, physical, secondary, and special), ENGINEERING AND ENVIRONMENTAL DESIGN (industrial engineering technology and interior design}, SOCIAL SCIENCE (history, philosophy, psychology, religion, and sociology}. Business and education are the largest.
Required: To graduate, students must complete 124 credits, including 32 in the major, with a GPA of 2.0. All students must fulfill general education requirements in the following areas: written and oral communication, aesthetics, history, society, natural sciences, technology and culture, and religion /beliefs/values. Students must also participate in an integrative seminar and a service experience, and must complete a global/intercultural experience, which may include intercultural studies courses or modern language courses.
Special: Cross-registration with other colleges is available through the Associated Colleges of Centra! Kansas. McPherson also offers internships, study abroad in 9 countries, credit by examination, a general studies degree, student-designed majors, and pass/fail options. There are preprofessional programs in health, engineering, law. forestry, and veterinary medicine.
Faculty/Classroom: 60% of faculty are male; 40%, female. A!l teach undergraduates. The average class size in an introductory lecture is 25 and in a regular course, 12.
Requirements: The ACT is required, but SAT I scores are accepted. McPherson requires applicants to be in the upper 33% of their class. A GPA of 2.3 is required. The GED is accepted. AP and CLEP credits are accepted. Important factors in the admissions decision are recommendations by school officials, evidence of special talent, and parents or siblings attending the school.
Procedure: Freshmen are admitted fall and spring. Entrance exams should be taken in the junior year. Check with the school for current application deadlines. There is a $15 fee. Notification is sent on a rolling basis.
