Programs of Study: Sterling confers B.A. and B.S. degrees. Bache¬lor’s degrees are awarded in BIOLOGICAL SCIENCE (biology/ biological science), BUSINESS (accounting and business administration and management), COMMUNICATIONS AND THE ARTS (art, dra¬matic arts, English, fine arts, music, and speech/debate/rhetoric), COMPUTER AND PHYSICAL SCIENCE (computer science and math¬ematics), EDUCATION (elementary, music, and physical), SOCIAL SCI¬ENCE (behavioral science, history, religious education, and theological studies).
Required: To graduate, students must complete courses in college composition, writing and library research, communications, math, reli¬gion and philosophy, humanities, behavioral sciences, and fine arts. They must have an overall GPA of 2.0, with 2.5 in the major. A total of 124 credit hours must be earned, with 24 to 55 hours in the major. Physical fitness and chapel/convocation requirements must also be met.
Special: Sterling offers internships, co-op programs, and work-study programs. Students may study abroad, and may register for junior-year programs through other colleges. A Washington semester is also avail¬able. The college offers a B.A.-B.S. degree in conjunction with Kansas State University. Dual and student-designed majors may also be pur¬sued. Nondegree study and a pass/fail grading option are available.
Admissions: 83% of the 1997-98 applicants were accepted. The SAT I scores for the 1997-98 freshman class were: Verbaf-57% below 500 and 42% between 500 and 599; Math»60% below 500, 32% between 500 and 599, and 7% between 600 and 700. 24% of the current fresh¬men were in the top fifth of their class; 55% were in the top two fifths.
Requirements: The SAT I or ACT is required. A GPA of 2.2 is re¬quired. Applicants must graduate from an accredited secondary school or have a GED. An interview is recommended. AP and CLEP credits are accepted.
Procedure: Entrance exams should be taken in the fall of the senior year. There is an early admissions plan. Application deadlines are open. Notification is sent on a rolling basis.
Transfer: Transfer students must maintain at least a C average. 30 credits of 124 must1 be completed at Sterling.

Financial Aid: In 1997-98, 95% of all students received some form of financial aid. The average freshman award was $10,000. 60% of un¬dergraduates work part time. Average annual earnings from campus work are $730. The average financial indebtedness of the 1997 gradu¬ate was $11,581. The FAFSA is required. The fail application deadline is March 15.
