Requirements: There are no specific academic requirements, but typical applicants for admission will have 4 years each of English, social studies, foreign language, and math, 3 1/2 years of science, and 1 course each in art, music, and history. A high school record, 2 teacher recommendations, and an essay are required. AP credits are accepted. Important factors in the admissions decision are advanced placement or honor courses, recommendations by school officials, and evidence of special talent.
Procedure: Freshmen are admitted in the fall. Entrance exams are required for counseling and placement only and should be submitted by the late summer before the freshman year. There are early decision and deferred admissions plans. Early decision I applications should be filed by November 15 and early decision II by January 1; regular applications, by January 1 for fall entry, along with a $55 fee. Notification of early decision I is sent December 15 and early decision II by February 15; regular decision, April 15. 200 early decision candidates were accepted for the 1997-98 class. 1% of all applicants are on a waiting list.
