Disabled Students: 80% of the campus is accessible. Wheelchair ramps, elevators, special parking, specially equipped rest rooms, lowered drinking fountains, and lowered telephones are available.
Services: Counseling and information services are available, as is tutoring in most subjects. There is remedial math and writing.
Campus Safety and Security: Measures include informal discussions, pamphlets/posters/films, and lighted pathways/sidewalks.
Programs of Study: Husson confers the B.S. degree. Associate and master’s degrees are also awarded. Bachelor’s degrees are awarded in BUSINESS (accounting, banking and finance, business administration and management, business systems analysis, marketing/retailing/ merchandising, and sports management), COMPUTER AND PHYSICAL SCIENCE (computer programming), EDUCATION (business and physical), HEALTH PROFESSIONS (nursing). Accounting, nursing, and physical therapy are the strongest academically. Business administration is the largest.
Required: Requirements for graduation vary by program, but a total of 120 credit hours with a minimum GPA of 2.0 is necessary. A course in computer information systems is required in the first year for most programs.
Special: Husson offers sports management and accounting internships as well as co-op programs in most majors. The 5-year physical therapy major leads to an accelerated graduate degree. Study abroad, credit for life, military, and work experience, and nondegree study are also available.
Faculty/Classroom: 46% of faculty are male; 54%, female. All teach undergraduates. No introductory courses are taught by graduate students. The average class size in an introductory lecture is 26; in a lab, 15; and in a regular course,
Admissions: 82% of the 1997-98 applicants were accepted. The SAT I scores for the 1997-98 freshman class were: Verbal-56% below 500, 39% between 500 and 599, 4% between 600 and 700, and 1% above 700; Math-55% below 500, 37% between 500 and 599, 8% between 600 and 700, and 1% above 700. 27% of the current freshmen were in the top fifth of their class; 56% were in the top two fifths.
Requirements: The SAT I is required. Husson requires applicants to be in the upper 60% of their class. A GPA of 2.0 is required. Applicants must be graduates of an accredited secondary school or have earned a GED. A recommendation from a high school counselor is required. AP and CLEP credits are accepted. Important factors in the admissions decision are advanced placement or honor courses, recommendations by school officials, and leadership record.
Procedure: Freshmen are admitted to all sessions. Entrance exams should be taken prior to enrollment. There are early decision, early admissions, and deferred admissions plans. Application deadlines are December 15 for early decision and open for regular decision. The application fee is $25. Notification is sent on a rolling basis. 5 early decision candidates were accepted for the 1997-98 class.
Transfer: 88 transfer students enrolled in 1997-98. Applicants must have a 2.0 GPA. Courses with a C grade or better transfer. 30 credits of 120 must be completed at Husson.
