Faculty/Classroom: All teach undergraduates.
Admissions: 85% of the 1997-98 applicants were accepted. The SAT 1 scores for the 1997-98 freshman classes were: Verbal-65% below 500 and 35% between 500 and 599; Math-35% below 500, 62% between 500 and 599, and 3% between 600 and 700. 30% of the current freshmen were in the top fifth of their class; 40% were in the top two fifths. Requirements: SAT I or ACT scores, though not required, should be submitted if available, for placement purposes. Unity requires applicants to be in the upper 50% of their class. A GPA of 2.0 is required. Applicants must be graduates of an accredited secondary school and have a minimum GPA of 2.0. The GED is accepted. An essay is required and an interview is recommended. AP and CLEP credits are accepted. Important factors in the admissions decision are advanced placement or honor courses, evidence of special talent, and leadership record.
Procedure: Freshmen are admitted fall and spring. Entrance exams should be taken in the junior or senior year. There are early admissions and deferred admissions plans. Application deadlines are open. There is a $25 fee. Notification is sent on a rolling basis. A waiting list is an active part of the admissions procedure.
Transfer: 40 transfer students enrolled in 1997-98. Applicants must present a minimum college GPA of 2.0 and are encouraged to submit SAT I scores. 60 credits of 120 must be completed at Unity.
Visiting: There are regularly scheduled orientations for prospective students. There are guides for informal visits and visitors may sit in on classes and stay overnight. To schedule a visit, contact the Admissions Office.
Financial Aid: In a recent year, 81% of all freshmen and 79% of continuing students received some form of financial aid. 78% of freshmen and 72% of continuing students received need-based aid. The average freshman award was $7705. Of that total, scholarships or need-based grants averaged $2925 ($10,000 maximum); loans averaged $3304 ($10,500 maximum); and work contracts averaged $1475 ($2448 maximum). 57% of undergraduates work part time. Average annual earnings from campus work are $1322. Unity is a member of CSS. The CSS/Profile or FAFSA and the college’s own financial statement is required. The fall application deadline is April 15.
International Students: The school actively recruits these students. They must score 500 on the TOEFL.
Computers: A network of IBM PCs is available in the environmental science building. Apple and Mac PCs are available in a number of locations on campus. All students may access the system. There are no time limits and no fees.
