Visiting: There are regularly scheduled orientations for prospective students, during the month before the beginning of a semester. There are guides for informal visits and visitors may sit in on classes. To schedule a visit, contact the Admissions and Records Office.
Financial Aid: In a recent year, 70% of all students received some form of financial aid. 60% of students received need-based aid. The average freshman award was $2300. Of that total, scholarships or need-based grants averaged $1500 ($4488 maximum); and loans averaged $1850 ($4000 maximum). 5% of undergraduates work part time. Average annual earnings from campus work are $2000. The average financial indebtedness of a recent graduate was $2500. UMA is a member of CSS. The FAFSA is required. The fall application deadline is March 1.
International Students: There were 4 international students enrolled in a recent year. Applicants must score 500 on the TOEFL.
Computers: The mainframes are comprised of an IBM 3033 and an IBM 4381. Terminals are available at the Student Computer Center on the main campus and at off-campus locations. All students may access the system 8 A.M. to 9:45 P.M. There are no time limits.
Graduates: In a recent year, 211 bachelor’s degrees were awarded. The most popular majors were business administration (24%), nursing (13%), and general studies (11%). In an average class, 24% graduate in 3 years, 45% in 4 years, 59% in 5 years, and 67% in 6 years. 84 companies recruited on campus in a recent year.
