Disabled Students: 50% of the campus is accessible. Wheelchair ramps, elevators, special parking, specially equipped rest rooms, special class scheduling, lowered drinking fountains, lowered telephones, an accessible van, a swimming pool, and TDD are available. Services: Counseling and information services are available, as is tutoring in every subject. There is a reader service for the blind, and remedial math, reading, and writing.
Campus Safety and Security: Measures include 24-hour foot and vehicle patrol, self-defense education, escort service, and informal discussions. There are pamphlets/posters/films, emergency telephones, lighted pathways/sidewalks, and safety whistles.
Programs of Study: UMF confers B.A., B.S,, B.F.A., and B.G.S. degrees. Bachelor’s degrees are awarded in BIOLOGICAL SCIENCE (biology/biological science), BUSINESS (business economics), COMMUNICATIONS AND THE ARTS (creative writing, dramatic arts, English, music, performing arts, studio art, and visual and performing arts), COMPUTER AND PHYSICAL SCIENCE (computer mathematics, computer science, geochemistry, geology, and mathematics), EDUCATION (early childhood, education of the emotionally handicapped, education of the mentally handicapped, elementary, English, health, mathematics, science, secondary, social science, and special), ENGINEERING AND ENVIRONMENTAL DESIGN (environmental design and environmental science), HEALTH PROFESSIONS (community health work, rehabilitation therapy, and speech pathology/audiology), SOCIAL SCIENCE (anthropology, geography, history, international studies, liberal arts/general studies, political science/government, psychology, and sociology). Education, environmental science, and creative writing are the strongest academically. Elementary education, secondary education, and interdisciplinary studies are the largest.
Required: All students must maintain a minimum GPA of 2.0 while earning 120 semester hours, including 30 in their major. Core requirements include 9 hours each in social and behavioral sciences and the humanities, 8 in science, 4 in English composition, 3 each in math, health, and phys ed, and a foreign language.
